What I want more than anything is to create wide-open grassy plain filled to the brim with wild horses. But, as I mentioned, I am a reformed horse girl. My favorite animals to do this with are animals I relate to, like the wolves. I observe the animals in their “natural” habitat. Once I’m done, I go into first person mode and explore the little habitat I’ve created. I open up a new zoo, close it down to guests, and then fully trick out the entire park’s area for one or two species of animals. Most of the time, though, I’m uninterested entirely in the “zoo” portion of the game. All of my animals must be perfectly happy and healthy at all times.īut this is only when I’m playing the game as it’s meant to be played… more or less. Reticulated Giraffe 3 needs more space! Manta Ray 6 dislikes being in such a smelly enclosure!) is like a shot to my heart, a little failure. Each red notification alert at the top of my screen alerting me of my animal’s needs (Emperor Penguin 4 cannot reach Food Dish 2. I don’t delete the fences on the lion enclosures and watch them chase the guests. I am a kindly goddess – I don’t play to torment the animals or the tiny polygonal people streaming into my zoo. All I know is drawing awkward, squat blobs in fence posts, plopping down 4 (2 boy 2 girl) animals inside, and using the “Zookeeper Recommends” menu to fully trick out each animal’s habitat. I don’t really know how to make my zoo monetarily successful. I have spent hours up to this point in Freeform mode, with unlimited money and access to every animal, building, structure, and building block in the game. I, a reformed horse girl and lifelong animal lover, have just found out how to download horses into my copy of Zoo Tycoon 2.ĭon’t get me wrong, I love Zoo Tycoon 2 just as it is. Picture me – I’m 10 or 11, sitting at the far end of our dining room table with my Mom’s old laptop propped open, fan loudly whirring away.
